M.A.C. “Riri Woo” Lipstick

Listen up Rihanna fans!

If you are a fan of Riri’s music and make-up then today is your lucky day as M.A.C. have just launched the “Riri Woo” lipstick. The lipstick is described as a “vivid cool red, retro matte finish” lipstick. M.A.C. is a company known for their red lipstick shades including “Russian Red”, “M.A.C. Red” and “Ruby Woo” and I’m sure this shade will join the others as being an eye-catching yet very wearable red. This lipstick is while supplies last and tubes of “Riri Woo” seem to be flying out of stock online so I would say if you want it you better get in there fast. This shade is an online exclusive colour and if you are interested you can purchase it here and you can also check out M.A.C.’s full range of products.

Hello Everyone!

Hope life is treating you well. For my FOTD today I decided to do my own quick version of the beautiful Cora of VintageorTacky‘s “Speed Freak” tutorial. I’ve been a fan of Cora’s YouTube account for a quick a while now as she does amazing, striking make-up and isn’t afraid to use extremely bright colours, much like myself and I find that she is a big source of inspiration for some of my looks. If you haven’t checked out vintageortacky on YouTube yet I highly recommend it, you can see her videos here. So note that I haven’t done this look exactly, I added some white to my waterline to brighten my look up for the daytime and my colours are not quite as vibrant but I do like it . :’)

So that’s it for this FOTD, as always please send any comments or requests my way and I would really appreciate it if you could share my posts around using the share buttons below.

Sunday Night Sounds

Sunday Night Sounds

Hey Everyone,

I hope your Sundays are going well. I have a whole bunch of ideas for blog post for the coming week but because the weather was so nice today I decided to take it easy for today. The result from this nice sunny day is a cover of “Interlude: Moving On” from Paramore’s new self-titled album. I’m new to the ukulele and I actually refuse to sing in public 90% of the time but enjoy this very rough cover and check the original cover out here and get Paramore’s new album here and on iTunes.  So have a nice rest of your Sunday and I’ll see you all during the week.

My Skincare Routine

Happy Saturday Everyone,

So I’m going to let you all in on my skin care routine, it’s tried and tested  and it works for me. I would have pretty normal skin, however it can be prone to dryness occasionally, particularly if I’ve been wearing heavy make-up for a few days in a row. So without further ado, here’s my skin picks.

Cleanser
For my cleanser I’ve been living off of Esteé Lauder’s Soft Clean Moisture Rich Foaming Cleanser. My mam is a big Esteé Lauder fan and she used to always get free samples of this whenever she bought something so I don’t actually need to buy cleansers very often but that suits me just fine as I really love this.

The formula is quite thick which I like as I’m not a fan of  very thin liquid cleansers but with this one I can massage it into my skin and see exactly what areas I have covered. I wash it off after a minute and it leaves my skin feeling truly clean and clear and it skill leaves my skin feeling fresh on days when I don’t have enough time to exfoliate. I’d really recommend this.

  IMG_0232

Exfoliator
Because I have skin that can be dry if I’m not careful it’s really important for me to exfoliate to make sure I great rid of all of the dryness and have soft skin. I haven’t been as lucky with exfoliators and have tried loads of different brands to find the right one. I’m don’t like exfoliators when I feel that their exfoliating beads don’t remove dead skin from the surface and on the other hand I don’t want to damage my skin with an exfoliator that’s too abrasive.

The exfoliator that I keep coming back to is the St. Ives Face Scrub, I’m currently using the Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub. I find that the exfoliating beads in this are just the right size and I can really feel the scrubbing action without causing irritation. The apricot smells is amazing and I think it’s a great face wash for the early mornings as it really helps to wake you up. When it’s washed off it leaves lovely, fresh looking skin and I see there’s a noticeable glow to my skin.

IMG_0237

Another amazing exfoliator is Benefit’s Honey Snap Out of It. Once again, it has an amazing sweet smell and you can feel it exfoliate the skin without being too rough. A bottle of this lasts absolutely ages, even when used frequently, I used to use it most days. Since I also liked using my other exfoliator I took a suggestion that I was given by a girl working at Benefit and I exfoliate my skin with this once a week but I apply it as a face mask. I squeeze some out, rub it into my skin in circular motions and then make sure that there is enough on my face so it can act like a mask. I leave this on for a few minutes and then wash it off with warm water. This also leaves my skin amazingly soft and glowing.

IMG_0234

Toner
I am not really into expensive toners, I’ve actually had the Nivea Young Freshen Up Toner for years and when it runs out I will just buy a cheap one more than likely. I do like to spray some of this toner onto my face right after I exfoliate and then I normally brush my teeth to allow it some time to settle into my skin. This toner is very refreshing and it doesn’t leave any residue on my skin.

IMG_0233

Moisturiser
As someone who can be prone to dry skin moisturising is key. I tend to use a lighter Moisturiser during the day to allow it to set in quickly and then I use a more heavy duty one at night.

For daytime I used Superdrug’s Simply Pure SPF 15 Sensitive Skin Face Lotion. It’s super cheap but it’s fine for keeping my skin soft and prepping it for make-up application. I also think it’s good that this face lotion has SPF 15 but on sunnier days I also apply sun screen to make sure I don’t burn and am protected from the sun.

At nighttime I use Astral, it’s totally affordable and is much thicker so I put it on at night and allow it to set in overnight.

I also use Rituals Awareness Eye Treatment on my eye area. I lightly apply it with my ring finger and pat it gently into the area for extra protection for the sensitive skin around my eyes.

Just as a side note if anyone is wondering what I use for make-up removal I use Balms Away Make-Up Remover by The Balm. I find it’s the best make-up remover I’ve used and it removes everything from liquid eyeliner to glitter eye make-up.

So there we have it, my complete skincare routine, let me know if you’ve tried any of these products or are going to try any of them. As always like, comment and please share using the buttons below if you like my posts. Have a great Saturday.

Debs/Prom Make-Up and Fashion Tips

Greetings Friends :’)

So I know that proms and debs happen all year round but hopefully this guide can help some people when it comes to their special day. I’ll give you a guide to your make-up and my style definitely isn’t for everyone but I will give you tips for getting the best out of your formal attire.

Fashion:

  • Try on your dress frequently: A lot of people tend to buy their dresses  months in advance and as formal dresses tend to be a lot more form fitting it’s a good idea to try your dress on every now and again to see if it still fits perfectly. By doing this you can see if  you need to watch what you eat coming up to the big day or if you need the dress taken in, I’d also advise that you have a full test run of the entire outfit maybe a week before the day to ensure that everything looks right together and to see if any last minute adjustments need to be made.
  •  Break your shoes in beforehand: There is nothing wrong with buying a fancy new pair of high heels for  a special event, there is something wrong with being in pain all night because your shoes haven’t been broken in. My tip would be to wear your shoes in little by little, I wore mine every few days for a good few weeks and started at about 15 minutes and continually increased the time I spent in them. While doing this I would suggest that you try and walk as normally as possible and do everyday activities, I did tidying and housework in mine! You  don’t want to walk slowly and elegantly and convince yourself that you are able to handle your shoes then find that you can’t take two steps when the big day rolls around when you are face with slopes and uneven surfaces! My Debs shoes were about 6 inches high with a thick platform but I still needed to get used to them and this definitely paid off.
  • You can have style and function: Just because something is nice doesn’t mean it is necessarily the most suitable for the job and you  can still have something that looks nice and  serves a function. I had a clutch bag for both of the debs I went to but I made sure that this clutch bag was big enough to fit my flat shoes, camera, phone and all of my make-up for touch-ups.
  • Don’t be afraid to get crafty: If you are in anyway handy it can save you a lot of money to be crafty. My clutch was initially a handbag with a long white strap but I thought it looked cheap so I simply cut it off and it looked much nicer. Instead of buying an expensive shawl I bought a few meters of material from Guiney’s or a fabric shop and my aunt made my shawl which saved me a lot of money and it ensured that I had exactly the shawl I wanted, my aunt also  made my underskirt which puffed out my dress and it meant that I didn’t need to spend €50 buying a premade one. Being gifted with a needle and thread also helps out at you making you outfit more comfortable on the night.  My aunt sewed my shawl with a stitch to the sleeve of my dress and it meant that I didn’t have to be fixing my shawl for the night.
  • Looking Fabulous doesn’t need to break the bank: Although you are going to a formal occasion you don’t need  to spend hundreds or thousands in order to look nice and occasion appropriate.  I went to a Debs in 5th Year and 6th year I got a €7 bag from Penney’s and used it for both, I wore the same shoes to both and my flat shoes I took with me were from Penney’s. I would also suggest that you keep an eye out in shops, I found my black and white fascinator while looking for my shoes and I got it for €5 down from €30  because it was last season’s stock. Both of my Debs dresses were from EBay and both came in at under €50 with shipping. There is a lot to be saidbrowsing bargains and having a bit of a D.I.Y. attitude.

Make-Up

  • Practice, Practice, Practice: Whether you are doing your own make-up or getting it done professionally it is important to have a test run, make sure you are exactly sure about what you want to do and it’ll guarantee the best results possible on the day.
  • Bring make-up for touch ups: Pretty self-explanatory. You don’t need to bring your entire make-up bag with you but just a lipgloss or lipstick and maybe some pressed powder and a little pocket mirror.
  • Take your time, don’t panic: You definitely need to give yourself time to get everything right, don’t leave everything until the last minute or you may run out of  time. It took me three attempts to get my eyelashes on in 6th year so always give yourself time to fix any disasters that may occur.
  • Keep it simple: Simple doesn’t need to mean boring. Think about colours suit you, golds and neutrals suit most skin tones but with liquid eyeliner and false lashes it’s very easy to make a statement, be careful if you plan on using bright colours, it’s good to have a classic look and have something that’s quite timeless as purple statement lips may not be in vogue when you look back in 20 years (this is rich coming from the girl who went to both of her Debs with pink hair).

Hayley Williams M.A.C. Cosmetics Collection Review

Hello everyone :’)

As many of you may know, Hayley Williams, singer with the amazing band Paramore launched a collection with M.A.C. Cosmetics, which you can view here,

http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/whats_new/10925/New-Collections/Hayley-Williams/index.tmpl .

The collection is all based around the colour orange, a signature look for the singer and it features a nail polish, a mineralize skin finish, an eyeshadow and a lipstick. Being a huge fan of the band and being a big  fan of Hayley’s personal style I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some of the pieces. I chose to get the eyeshadow, lipstick and mineralize skin finish and after a few uses each I was ready to review them.

Orange Lipstick in “Sounds Like Noise”
I have wanted a bright orange lipstick for quite a while now, however I’ve been quite conscious about which one to pick as I am very pale and did not want to pick a tone of orange which would look too garish next to my skin tone so when I heard Hayley’s collection included a lipstick I was excited to see what it was like as she is very fair skinned herself. This lipstick is described as “true orange” which it most definitely is but it still manages to flatter pale skin. The lipstick goes on easily and has quite a matte finish and it shows good lasting power. I also found that unlike some other statement lipsticks it gives a fabulous pop of colour to a make up look but I find that it is incredibly wearable and it can be paired with understated and bolder eyeshadow. I would highly recommend this lipstick for anyone looking to make a statement with their lips.

Eyeshadow in “Daydreaming”
The second item I bought was the eyeshadow in “Daydreaming”. Although I’ve never been afraid of wearing strongly coloured eyeshadow I know that some people would be turned off by the idea of an orange eyeshadow, however “Daydreaming” is a lovely coral orange with a lovely pearl finish, making it extremely wearable. After some experimentation I find that the eyeshadow can be worn on its own with liquid eyeliner, such as Hayley’s M.A.C. look above or with a wash of colour on the lid or by putting a brown into the crease for a more subtle look. Another look is to wear a shimmery eyeshadow such as a white or a silver like Hayley did at the MTV Movie Awards, as seen below, this this keeps the impact of the colour but adds a softer edge to the look. As with all M.A.C. eyeshadows it is very pigmented and it is a great choice for those who like unusual colours or for those who would like to make a statement while maintaining a nice subtlety.

Mineralize Skin Finish in “Lightscapade”
I had always wanted a M.A.C. Mineralize Skin Finish and my mother actually has some but I feel that although some make lovely blushers other shades are too dark for my skin tone as I am very fair skin and I really don’t look good with too much bronze on but this skin finish is a gorgeous “candlelit beige” and the veining in the product appears silver, gold and even some light baby pink. I applied this product on the tops of my cheeks and other areas on my face as a highlight and I loved the finished look, it provided a lovely glow, yet still looked more natural than other liquid and powder highlighters I have used. Although this product works amazingly well for pale skin it could also make a lovely highlighter for any skintone. Overall, I really love this collection and I feel that it works well for those who love statement make up and those who prefer a more subtle look. All of the pieces are of great quality, show good lasting power and with these colours it is easy to create a multitude of looks. I’m including some swatches of the products and also some pictures of me wearing the products.
