Katy Perry “California Gurls” Make-Up

Hey Everybody,

Here’s a lovely, everyday version of Katy Perry’s “California  Gurls” make-up

2qtg6eq

To start, cover the lid in a nice lilac colour, I used M.A.C.’s “Beautiful Iris”

IMG_0280

Then if you don’t want to the mess of loose glitter you can use a glitter eyeliner all over the eyelid in a matching colour. I used Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in “Metalhead.” Ensure that you have really patted your eyeshadow into place with a primer otherwise the glitter will cause the eyeshadow to crease. Add some white eyeshadow to the inner corner of the eye, such as Essence’s “Chill Out”

IMG_0285

Then line your waterline with a nude colour or a white eyeliner to give a bright, wide eyed look. Then apply a pale gold eyeshadow under the bottom lashes such as Urban Decay’s “Honey”

IMG_0289

Then add a thin line of liquid eyeliner into the top lashline to give the effect of fuller eyelashes. Then apply a lot of Mascara.

IMG_0294

To complete the look add a pale pink lipstick and pale pink blusher, I chose Rimmel’s “Moonbeam” and Dainty Doll’s “My Girl”.

So that is my completed Katy Perry “California Gurls” Make-up look, I hope you enjoyed it and as always, like, comment, send in requests and share this post using the share buttons below.

Hello Everyone!

Hope life is treating you well. For my FOTD today I decided to do my own quick version of the beautiful Cora of VintageorTacky‘s “Speed Freak” tutorial. I’ve been a fan of Cora’s YouTube account for a quick a while now as she does amazing, striking make-up and isn’t afraid to use extremely bright colours, much like myself and I find that she is a big source of inspiration for some of my looks. If you haven’t checked out vintageortacky on YouTube yet I highly recommend it, you can see her videos here. So note that I haven’t done this look exactly, I added some white to my waterline to brighten my look up for the daytime and my colours are not quite as vibrant but I do like it . :’)

So that’s it for this FOTD, as always please send any comments or requests my way and I would really appreciate it if you could share my posts around using the share buttons below.

Apologies for the bad photo, I had to rush out the door, the same goes for my outfit today. I just went for something easy and colourful to match the lovely weather. Chances are I won’t wear the denim jacket for most of the day.

Outfit of The Day

I could break this outfit down but it turns out everything I am wearing today is from New Look! I will try to have more interesting OOTDs in future, such as going out outfits and whatnot.

So I hope you have a great day and I hope the weather is nice wherever you are. Even if it isn’t maybe this song can put you in a good mood, don’t let the video put you off, it’s a really good song regardless. If you like what you hear you can pick up Fall Out Boy’s new album “Save Rock and Roll” now.

All the Best,

My Skincare Routine

Happy Saturday Everyone,

So I’m going to let you all in on my skin care routine, it’s tried and tested  and it works for me. I would have pretty normal skin, however it can be prone to dryness occasionally, particularly if I’ve been wearing heavy make-up for a few days in a row. So without further ado, here’s my skin picks.

Cleanser
For my cleanser I’ve been living off of Esteé Lauder’s Soft Clean Moisture Rich Foaming Cleanser. My mam is a big Esteé Lauder fan and she used to always get free samples of this whenever she bought something so I don’t actually need to buy cleansers very often but that suits me just fine as I really love this.

The formula is quite thick which I like as I’m not a fan of  very thin liquid cleansers but with this one I can massage it into my skin and see exactly what areas I have covered. I wash it off after a minute and it leaves my skin feeling truly clean and clear and it skill leaves my skin feeling fresh on days when I don’t have enough time to exfoliate. I’d really recommend this.

  IMG_0232

Exfoliator
Because I have skin that can be dry if I’m not careful it’s really important for me to exfoliate to make sure I great rid of all of the dryness and have soft skin. I haven’t been as lucky with exfoliators and have tried loads of different brands to find the right one. I’m don’t like exfoliators when I feel that their exfoliating beads don’t remove dead skin from the surface and on the other hand I don’t want to damage my skin with an exfoliator that’s too abrasive.

The exfoliator that I keep coming back to is the St. Ives Face Scrub, I’m currently using the Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub. I find that the exfoliating beads in this are just the right size and I can really feel the scrubbing action without causing irritation. The apricot smells is amazing and I think it’s a great face wash for the early mornings as it really helps to wake you up. When it’s washed off it leaves lovely, fresh looking skin and I see there’s a noticeable glow to my skin.

IMG_0237

Another amazing exfoliator is Benefit’s Honey Snap Out of It. Once again, it has an amazing sweet smell and you can feel it exfoliate the skin without being too rough. A bottle of this lasts absolutely ages, even when used frequently, I used to use it most days. Since I also liked using my other exfoliator I took a suggestion that I was given by a girl working at Benefit and I exfoliate my skin with this once a week but I apply it as a face mask. I squeeze some out, rub it into my skin in circular motions and then make sure that there is enough on my face so it can act like a mask. I leave this on for a few minutes and then wash it off with warm water. This also leaves my skin amazingly soft and glowing.

IMG_0234

Toner
I am not really into expensive toners, I’ve actually had the Nivea Young Freshen Up Toner for years and when it runs out I will just buy a cheap one more than likely. I do like to spray some of this toner onto my face right after I exfoliate and then I normally brush my teeth to allow it some time to settle into my skin. This toner is very refreshing and it doesn’t leave any residue on my skin.

IMG_0233

Moisturiser
As someone who can be prone to dry skin moisturising is key. I tend to use a lighter Moisturiser during the day to allow it to set in quickly and then I use a more heavy duty one at night.

For daytime I used Superdrug’s Simply Pure SPF 15 Sensitive Skin Face Lotion. It’s super cheap but it’s fine for keeping my skin soft and prepping it for make-up application. I also think it’s good that this face lotion has SPF 15 but on sunnier days I also apply sun screen to make sure I don’t burn and am protected from the sun.

At nighttime I use Astral, it’s totally affordable and is much thicker so I put it on at night and allow it to set in overnight.

IMG_0231

IMG_0236

I also use Rituals Awareness Eye Treatment on my eye area. I lightly apply it with my ring finger and pat it gently into the area for extra protection for the sensitive skin around my eyes.

IMG_0235

Just as a side note if anyone is wondering what I use for make-up removal I use Balms Away Make-Up Remover by The Balm. I find it’s the best make-up remover I’ve used and it removes everything from liquid eyeliner to glitter eye make-up.

So there we have it, my complete skincare routine, let me know if you’ve tried any of these products or are going to try any of them. As always like, comment and please share using the buttons below if you like my posts. Have a great Saturday.

Dainty Doll Make-Up Review

IMG_0190

Hello Everyone : D

So I am back with another review. I recently purchased quite a lot of Dainty Doll make-up from  For those of you who aren’t aware Dainty Doll is the make-up brand of Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts and it is aimed particularly at pale girls, you can view the site here for a full list of products and stockists. As a pale girl I’ve wanted to try some of this range ever since I first heard about it, for anyone  interested in trying something out I’ll be reviewing some of the range, particularly the blushers and lipsticks.

Mineral Powder, Eyebase and Concealer
I think with a make-up range aimed at the fair-skinned the products for your complexion should be a true teller of if the make-up is truly suited to the paler girls. I find that as I am incredibly pale most make-up brands don’t actually make a foundation that makes my skin tone and a lot of commercial concealers actually appear yellow under my eyes in comparison to my foundation.

The Mineral Powder in Shade 001 “Now That I’ve Found You” is a lovely matte powder and is definitely the palest powder I have seen and it went on perfectly over my own foundation and gave me the matte finish that I like. I have seen this product being described as a mineral foundation, I personally wouldn’t use it for this purpose but I would recommend it for those that would like some nice, light coverage without a dewy finish. I tend to prefer products that I can use my own make-up brushes for but that being said the fibres in the brush don’t irritate my skin and I found that I was still able to achieve builable coverage.

IMG_0198

The concealer, like the powder is as pale as described and does not provide me with the yellowish tinge under my eyes. The concealer can be applied with a brush or fingers and it has quite a thick consistency so you do need to work quickly with it otherwise you will have to tug on your skin to spread it out evenly but it does cover discoloration which is great as I have quite dark circles under my eyes.

IMG_0193

As for the eyebase in 001 “Frankie Girl”, I still use my other eye primers like Urban Decay’s Primer Potion for all  of my heavy duty make-up and when I know I  need a look that will last for hours. This eye primer, like the concealer is quite a thick formulation, that being said After putting it on my eye I find that eyeshadows do stick to it very well and  the base’s off-white tone does mean that all of my shadows came up bright and very true to colour on my eyes which was a huge plus.

IMG_0199                                               IMG_0201

Lipsticks
I was incredibly excited to try all of the lipsticks as I am a  big fan of statement lips and I feel that no make-up look is completely without a lip product of some sort. Just to give a quick introduction, I got six lipsticks,
“Stripped” is a warm but still quite sheer golden honey kind of colour with some gold sparkle in it.
“In His Kiss” is a soft crystal pink colour, once again it goes on quite sheer.
“Baby Love” is a bit more opaque than the other two and is quite a peachy pink colour with a high shine.
“Storm in a Teacup”  a lovely brown based nude colour. It is a glossy opaque.
“Couture” is a beautiful, rich red. It  is quite berry based and does come out quite dark, more so than a normal deep red.
“Saucy Sailor” a lovely, bright cherry red.

I think that the lipsticks are all lovely colours. The lipstick go on easily, they do not have a drying formula and they do last quite a while. I am not the biggest fan of sheer lipsticks, however with a lipliner and precise application I think the first three lipsticks are lovely and a nice accompaniment for dramatic eyes or more subtle, everyday looks. I adore these two reds and since red is my go-to lipstick colour of choice these will definitely be joining the ranks with my other favourites. “Storm in a Teacup” is beautiful and I like it as it is a nude colour that doesn’t wash me out and doesn’t look out of place with my skintone, it is actually quite similar to “Vanilla Truffle” by Esteé Lauder which is one of my favourite nudes in general.

Blushers

I got  three of the blushes in the collection, “My Girl”, “You are my Sunshine” and “Hippie Shakes.”

“My Girl” a lovely baby pink colour.
“You are my sunshine” a nice peachy-pink shade that has some gold shimmer in it.
“Hippie Shakes” a striking pale lilac colour blush.

The three of these blushes are beautiful. They are very powdery and swirling my blusher brush on these creates a lot of powder, a light hand goes a long way with these products. The colours are amazing and they have incredible  colour payoff, where other blushes fail to make any impact over my pressed powder these blushes give a bold and highly pigmented result.

Overall, I think Dainty Doll is a really good make-up brand and there products are worth investing in for pale-skinned girls but the products like their lipsticks and blushers would be worth a look regardless of you skintone.

That’s all for now, please comment, share and like this post 🙂

Hayley Williams M.A.C. Cosmetics Collection Review

Hello everyone :’)

As many of you may know, Hayley Williams, singer with the amazing band Paramore launched a collection with M.A.C. Cosmetics, which you can view here,

http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/whats_new/10925/New-Collections/Hayley-Williams/index.tmpl .

The collection is all based around the colour orange, a signature look for the singer and it features a nail polish, a mineralize skin finish, an eyeshadow and a lipstick. Being a huge fan of the band and being a big  fan of Hayley’s personal style I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some of the pieces. I chose to get the eyeshadow, lipstick and mineralize skin finish and after a few uses each I was ready to review them.

Orange Lipstick in “Sounds Like Noise”
I have wanted a bright orange lipstick for quite a while now, however I’ve been quite conscious about which one to pick as I am very pale and did not want to pick a tone of orange which would look too garish next to my skin tone so when I heard Hayley’s collection included a lipstick I was excited to see what it was like as she is very fair skinned herself. This lipstick is described as “true orange” which it most definitely is but it still manages to flatter pale skin. The lipstick goes on easily and has quite a matte finish and it shows good lasting power. I also found that unlike some other statement lipsticks it gives a fabulous pop of colour to a make up look but I find that it is incredibly wearable and it can be paired with understated and bolder eyeshadow. I would highly recommend this lipstick for anyone looking to make a statement with their lips.

Eyeshadow in “Daydreaming”
The second item I bought was the eyeshadow in “Daydreaming”. Although I’ve never been afraid of wearing strongly coloured eyeshadow I know that some people would be turned off by the idea of an orange eyeshadow, however “Daydreaming” is a lovely coral orange with a lovely pearl finish, making it extremely wearable. After some experimentation I find that the eyeshadow can be worn on its own with liquid eyeliner, such as Hayley’s M.A.C. look above or with a wash of colour on the lid or by putting a brown into the crease for a more subtle look. Another look is to wear a shimmery eyeshadow such as a white or a silver like Hayley did at the MTV Movie Awards, as seen below, this this keeps the impact of the colour but adds a softer edge to the look. As with all M.A.C. eyeshadows it is very pigmented and it is a great choice for those who like unusual colours or for those who would like to make a statement while maintaining a nice subtlety.

Mineralize Skin Finish in “Lightscapade”
I had always wanted a M.A.C. Mineralize Skin Finish and my mother actually has some but I feel that although some make lovely blushers other shades are too dark for my skin tone as I am very fair skin and I really don’t look good with too much bronze on but this skin finish is a gorgeous “candlelit beige” and the veining in the product appears silver, gold and even some light baby pink. I applied this product on the tops of my cheeks and other areas on my face as a highlight and I loved the finished look, it provided a lovely glow, yet still looked more natural than other liquid and powder highlighters I have used. Although this product works amazingly well for pale skin it could also make a lovely highlighter for any skintone. Overall, I really love this collection and I feel that it works well for those who love statement make up and those who prefer a more subtle look. All of the pieces are of great quality, show good lasting power and with these colours it is easy to create a multitude of looks. I’m including some swatches of the products and also some pictures of me wearing the products.
